Insurance coverage for Covid-19 testing and treatment
If you currently are in good health but without health insurance, there are catastrophic plans available that will cover testing and treatment for the coronavirus. Apply today, they’ll start tomorrow. They are less expensive than Affordable Care Act plans. They can be purchased for up to six months and cancelled at any time.
Testing Coverage
For testing to diagnose Covid-19 (coronavirus), Blue Cross announced it will
- waive co-pays and deductibles
- waive pre-authorization
When medically necessary and consistent with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance. This applies to individual and group policyholders (including Health Savings Accounts) in good standing.
Treatment Coverage
All major medical health insurance plans cover medically necessary health benefits, including physician services, hospitalization and emergency services consistent with the terms of the member’s benefit plan. Members should always call the number on their ID card for answers to their specific benefit questions.
Call the number on the back of your membership card to see if your plan has virtual visits with your health providers or with the insurer’s health information providers such as MDLIVE.
Medicare
The President announced Friday afternoon that Medicare would waive requiring a 3-day hospital stay for nursing home coverage, but we’re not sure how that will work yet.
Taking care of yourself
As of this writing, no one under 80 years of age has died of corona virus in the US. The only confirmed case we know of (48-year-oldman, his two early teen children) was treated at home with acetaminophen, vitamin C, liquids and rest until the fever and aches went away. Then the family continued self-quarantine for 14 days. Center for Disease control is consistent in advising:
- wash your hands often with soap and water for 20 seconds
- try not to touch your face
- stay out of nursing homes or centers for elderly people
- If you experience aches and fever, call your doctor immediately and self-
- If you feel ill at all, stay home.
